7 Tips For Choosing A Spiritual Guru

Although the realization of being is an individual task, to reach such clarity of vision, the seeker needs a spiritual guru or advisor, as it is called in Hinduism. In Guru Gita, the guru is described as "a dissipates of darkness". Choosing an appropriate spiritual master is a matter of fundamental importance. Since the teacher must guide the student through a path that is invisible. The student must place all his trust in his mentor, which requires him to be sure that his teacher is interested in him and has the necessary wisdom to guide him.

Here are some points to consider if you are looking for a spiritual master or spiritual advisor.

1. A good teacher practices what he teaches:

Let's start with the basics if you detect inconsistencies between the words and actions of a teacher it is better to let them pass.

2. Speak in simple language

It is said that the Buddha have taught his teaching in many different ways because he wanted that all kinds of people to have access to it. Mastery consists in making the complicated simple, not the other way around. Do not be impressed by a baroque rhetoric.

3. Do not try to take control over your life

A good Spiritual Guru will not try to control your life or your relationships. Avoid those with manipulative and controlling features. A legitimate spiritual advisor will not ask you to do something violent, illegal or against ethics. It will not try to control your finances either.

4. A legitimate spiritual guide does not focus on wealth, fame or power

Unfortunately, there have been no dishonest spiritual gurus who only demand worshipers for their ego. Some take advantage of people's faith to try to increase their wealth. If you notice that the Spiritual Advisor wallows in worship or lives luxuriously, it is better to stay away.

5. It does not demand that you believe blindly

A good spiritual guru will accept that after listening to his teachings, analyze them and make your own decisions about them. In addition, he will be open to your questions and will look for the way in which you can better absorb the teaching according to your temperament and conditions. Be alert to any extreme vision or dogma, a true spiritual master respects your free will and your ability to choose.

6. If you feel something is wrong, follow your intuition.

If you can not put into words what it is, that feels "weird" with respect to a certain guide but you feel that something is not right, listen to it. You may not know what it is now, but there is a series of perceptions, such as body language, the tone of voice, etc., that we can not always express using language, but that allows us to evaluate a situation. Maybe time will help you understand why you felt that way.

7. Do not blame yourself if you have a bad experience

If you have an unpleasant experience with a false spiritual guru or adviser, do not get mad at yourself. Get the best out of it by analyzing what projections you could make about this person. The manipulators take advantage of the fragilities of others. Learning more about your weak points can be very valuable and provide you with personal growth if you know how to make benefit of it.
